Are Court Records Public in Granville County?
Yes. The North Carolina Public Records Law strongly favors public access to court records. It also gives Granville County courts the authority to limit access to their records when necessary to ensure the fair administration of justice. These records are considered confidential and not available for public perusal. Examples of such records are:

Granville County Criminal Records
Record seekers can conduct a Granville County criminal records search on themselves or others by submitting a Form AOC-CR-314 to the Superior Court Clerk’s Office. The completed form can be sent by mail or in person with a fee of $25 to retrieve certified copies of the record. Businesses can access criminal records remotely through the N.C. Administrative office of the Courts’ (NCAOC) Remote Public Access program (RPA). The fees for this service vary depending on whether the agency wants online access (real-time) or extracts (bulk data).
The N.C. State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) also issued criminal records to customers. Individuals who want to request a criminal record check on themselves can complete a Request for Access to Criminal History Record Information - Right to Review form to the SBI. Afterward, they should visit the Granville County Sheriff’s Office to obtain a set of their fingerprints on an FD-258 Applicant Fingerprint Card. The requester visits the office with a valid photo ID and a fee of $10, payable by checks, money orders, or credit/debit card. Get Granville County Civil Court Records
The Granville County Superior Court hears civil cases involving $25,000 or more, with the District Court handling civil cases between $10,000 and $25,000. These two courts permit public access to civil court records in person during business hours. The record staff assists in conducting record searches when the necessary search criteria are provided. The requester must pay a copy fee before obtaining the desired records. These courthouses also have public access terminals where record seekers can view civil court records for free. However, a fee would be required to print copies of such records.

Granville County Marriage Records
The Register of Deeds Office issues Granville County marriage records online and in person to its customers. Copies of these records cost $10 per copy, but online orders attract additional fees. The Register of Deeds handles online orders through a third-party vendor. In-person customers must complete an application form to help locate the record. The staff will provide the record immediately after the copy fee is paid.
Granville County Divorce Records
The Granville County Clerk of Court provides divorce records online through its eCourts Portal to members of the public. The search criteria are name or number. Users can click the “Advanced Filtering Options” to narrow their searches. They can go to the Filter by Location section, select Granville County, scroll to the Filter by Case Type area, and select Family. Individuals who cannot locate a divorce record online can visit the Clerk’s Office from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. They may be required to fill out an application form to facilitate the search. After the record is located, the staff will calculate the copy fees and make it available to the requester.
Granville County Birth and Death Records
The Register of Deeds Office files and indexes Granville County vital records (birth and death). Copies of these documents are available upon request. The office offers an online ordering service for birth and death records through a third-party vendor. Certified copies of these Granville County public records cost $10 per copy. All orders are processed within business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). However, requests received after 4 p.m. will be processed the next business day. Requesters will be required to upload a valid photo ID during the online application. Note that the third-party vendor charges an extra convenience fee per transaction plus applicable credit card fees.

The portal can be accessed on the clerk’s official website or through the public access computers available at the courthouse. Users can search using a name (attorney number, business name, nickname, or party name) or number (attorney bar number, case cross-reference number, case number, or citation number). Granville County Property Records
The Granville County public records include property documents like deeds, plats, and deeds of trust, which are recorded, indexed, and scanned at the Register of Deeds Office. Inquirers can view these documents online for free using the Index Search tool. A search can be conducted by quick name, advanced name, property, book/page, file number, date range, certified dates, or index books from 1746 through 1977. The office also issues property records in person for a fee. Copies of property records cost $0.10, while certified copies cost $5 for the first page plus $2 for each additional page.
