Randolph County Court Records Search by Name

Users searching for a civil case record on the terminal are advised to download the Civil Case Processing System (VCAP) User Manual. The manual guides the user on how to use the terminal to access the desired civil court record. The record search can be performed using the party’s partial or full name. Confidential court records may not be found on the terminal’s record database. In this case, the user should request the record in person from the Court Clerk.
Randolph County Courts
Randolph County is a part of North Carolina’s unified court system managed by the North Carolina Judicial Branch. It consists of two trial courts, the Superior Court and the District Court (inclusive of the family court, small claims court, and magistrates). The county has only one courthouse where all cases in the county are heard. Below is the courthouse’s address:

Randolph County Superior Court Case Search
The Superior Court of Randolph County handles civil cases that exceed $25,000 in claims, felony criminal cases, misdemeanor and infraction appeals from the District Court. The Clerk of the Superior Court is the custodian of the court records of all cases heard by the Superior Court.
Individuals can view these records at the public self-service terminal at the Clerk of Court’s office. A case record can be searched out using the party name or the record’s case number.
The inquirer may choose to obtain a paper copy of the record at the clerk’s office. A copy of the requested copy will be made for a fee.
Randolph County District Court Records
Randolph County District Court hears cases involving misdemeanors, infractions, juvenile cases, divorce, child custody, child support, and civil cases with claims under $25,000. The District Court includes magistrates, who are independent judicial officers recognized by the state constitution. Magistrates are authorized to handle small claims up to $10,000, landlord eviction cases, personal property recovery, and motor vehicle mechanics’ liens. They also issue arrest warrants, determine bail fees, accept guilty pleas for minor misdemeanors and infractions, accept waivers of trial for specific check cases, and officiate marriage ceremonies.
A District Court record may be accessed electronically at the Clerk of Court’s self-service terminal. The case number or party name is required to conduct a search at the terminal. Official copies of the record can only be retrieved for a fee from the clerk’s office.
Randolph County Criminal Records
A criminal record comprises the history of an individual’s criminal activity as documented by the court and law enforcement agencies, ranging from Randolph county arrests to charges and convictions. An arrest record is generated and maintained by the agency that carries out the arrest. The Sheriff’s Office is the primary law enforcement agency in Randolph County and maintains the county’s arrest records. Individuals may visit the Sheriff’s office during operational hours (Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm) to obtain a Randolph County arrest record. The office is located at:

The county’s full criminal records are not maintained by the Sheriff's office but by the Clerk of Superior Court.
Researchers can conduct a certified criminal background check via the Clerk of Superior Court. The requestor is to complete the Criminal Records Search form and submit it to the clerk at the courthouse. The request must include a $25 fee, payable either in person or by mail. Acceptable modes of in-person payments are cash, money orders, credit cards, and certified checks. Mail-in payments can be made by money order or certified check accepted. Personal checks will not be accepted.
It is necessary to note that infractions are not criminal offenses in North Carolina. To obtain a complete criminal record that includes a history of infractions, the researcher must request an infraction search alongside the criminal record search.
The North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts (NAOC) has a list of approved third-party companies that release criminal history records. Anyone can use their services as an alternative to conduct a criminal record search on a person. There is no uniform fee across the third-party vendor to perform a search as the vendors set their fees as they choose. Although the NAOC supplies the companies with up-to-date records, it cannot vouch for the accuracy and currency of the records they disseminate to requestors.
The criminal history of Juveniles and other confidential criminal records will not be released to third parties.
Randolph County Criminal Court Case Lookup
Criminal court records contain information on criminal cases that were heard in court. The Superior Court and District Court both handle criminal cases depending on the level of offense.
Randolph County criminal court records can be procured at the Clerk of Court’s Office. The clerk may make a copy of the record for a fee at the inquirer’s request. The records can also be looked up on the public self-service terminal at the courthouse. The user can search for a criminal court record using a party name or case number. The terminal is free to use and may be the more convenient option for individuals to utilize in looking up criminal court records in the county.
Get Randolph County Civil Court Records
A civil case is a case involving a dispute between two parties. Civil court records comprise information pertaining to a civil case tried in court. In Randolph County, the Superior Court tries major civil cases while the District Court tries minor cases.
One may request a civil court record from the clerk of court at the courthouse. The case number or party name on the record is required to conduct a search. The requestor may decide only to view the record or obtain a copy of the record for a fee.
The Clerk of Court’s public self-service terminal can be used to view civil court records. It is recommended that the Civil Case Processing System user manual be used as a guide when searching for civil court records on the terminal. A search can be conducted using a name or case number. Case number searches on the system are usually more efficient than name searches.
Randolph County Family Court Records
The Randolph County Family Court is a subset of the District Court and handles family law cases in the county. The cases are heard by district judges who receive specialized training in handling domestic issues. The family court trials the following family-related cases.
- Domestic violence
- Termination of parental rights
- Juvenile delinquency
- Abuse, neglect, and dependency
- Divorce
- Child support, alimony, and property division
The Clerk of District Court is the custodian of family court records. Official copies of a family court record can be obtained in person for a fee at the clerk’s office. They can also be looked up electronically via the self-service terminal at the courthouse. Family court records like juvenile delinquency, abuse, neglect, and dependency are confidential per North Carolina’s Public Records Law. They cannot be looked up through the electronic terminal. Parties interested in such records must visit the Clerk of Court’s office in person.
Randolph Dissolution of Marriage Records
The family court judges of the District Court hear dissolution of marriage cases in Randolph County. A dissolution judgment serves to legally end a marriage union. The records are kept with the District Court clerk.
Interested persons can obtain a copy of the judgment passed on a dissolution of marriage case at the court clerk’s office. The requestor will be charged the amount it costs to reproduce the dissolution of marriage record.
The record may also be looked up on the public terminal at the courthouse using the record’s case number or name of either person involved.
Randolph County Marriage and Divorce Records
The Register of Deeds office maintains Randolph County vital records which comprise marriage, birth, and death records. The county has a record of vital events reaching back to 1913. However, the office only has the marriage records of couples whose marriage licenses were filed in the county. Resident couples who did not acquire their marriage license in Randolph County and have it documented will not be able to retrieve their marriage record from the Register of Deeds.
Records of marriages in the county are available on the Register of Deeds online record database. A marriage record search can be performed on the platform using either spouse's name and the marriage's date range. Information revealed by the search includes the names of both spouses, date of marriage, marriage license number and issue date, book, and page number.
The online database is accessible to the public but only specific persons can obtain a certified copy of a vital record per North Carolina General Statute 130A-93. These include
- Either spouse
- Immediate family of the applicant (parent, child, brother, sister, step-brother, or step-sister)
- The applicant’s grandchild or grandparent
- An attorney, legal representative of the applicant, or an authorized agent
- An individual who needs the record for the legal determination of personal or property rights
Individuals can apply for a certified copy of a marriage record (marriage certificate) by submitting a completely filled-out and signed Application for Certified Copy of a Vital Record form to the Register of Deed’s office. The office is located at:

- Payment for the certificate (Certified Check or Money Order)
- A self-addressed stamped envelope to receive the certificate
- A copy of the applicant’s current government-issued photo ID
Citizens of another country who reside in the United States may use their valid passport issued by their country’s consulate or embassy.
An application for a Randolph County marriage certificate can also be made online on the Register of Deeds Vital Records Marriage Certificate Request website. Online requests are processed during normal business hours. The applicant may pick up the certificate in person or request it be mailed. The requestor will be required to provide a valid government-issued photo ID to receive the certificate by mail. A fee of $2 will be incurred for each address requested.
A marriage certificate costs $10 per copy, excluding any additional fees that may arise from the application method (in person, mail, or online). Marriage certificates can be obtained only 10 days after the marriage ceremony.
Randolph County divorce records can be obtained at the Clerk of Court’s office for a fee. They are also available on the public self-service terminal. A fee is required to obtain official copies of the divorce record.
Randolph Birth and Death Records
Birth and death records are kept to help preserve the history of the vital events as they happen. They are maintained by the Register of Deeds office in Randolph County.
Birth and death records can be searched on the Register of Deeds online index of records. The search can be conducted using the subject’s name and/or the date range of the event. While records found online are valid and accurate, they do not serve as an official copy of the record.
The Application for Certified Copy of a Vital Record Request form should be filled out for the needed record and submitted to the Register of Deeds to obtain a certified copy. The record may be mailed to the register’s office or submitted in person. The request should be mailed along with payment, a self-addressed envelope, and a valid government-issued photo ID. Acceptable forms of payment are certified checks and money orders.
An alternative is to apply for the certificate online using the Birth Certificate or Death Certificate application portal for the appropriate record. The requestor can pick the record up in person once it is ready or have it mailed to a specified address. Mailing the certificate costs a $2 postage surcharge. Birth and death certificates cost $10 each per copy.
Only individuals born in Randolph County can obtain a birth certificate from the Register of Deeds. Birth records of adopted persons can only be acquired through the North Carolina Division of Public Health Office of Vital Records. An order for the birth certificate can be made on the NCDHHS Vital Records Order page. Certificates ordered through the Department of Public Health cost a non-refundable fee of $24 per request.
Randolph County Probate Court Records
A probate case involves the administration of a deceased person's real estate. The Superior Court of Randolph County handles probate matters in the county.
Probate court records may be acquired from the Clerk of Court’s office or viewed electronically on the self-service terminal at the courthouse.
Randolph County Property Records
Randolph County property records contain all information pertaining to real estate in the county. They are necessary to ensure all properties in the county are properly accounted for. The Randolph County Register of Deeds is the custodian of its property records.
A person seeking to acquire a property record may visit the register’s office to request for it. The researcher can also search the Register of Deeds online database for property records. The user can perform a standard or advanced search. The standard search criteria are the party name and the date range within which the property was filed. The advanced search can be done using last/firm name, first name, party type, date range, book and page number, document number, document type, and tax range. The advanced search criteria also include similar name, match type, entity type, index type, and description.
The information revealed by the search typically includes:

Randolph County Court Records Online
Randolph County court records can be obtained through third-party websites like NorthCarolinacourtrecords.us. The North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts (NCAOC) through the Remote Public Access Program grants third-party companies access to its court records database. Licensed third-party companies may either have real-time access or bulk data access to criminal and civil court records.
Members of the general public may utilize their services for a fee. These websites generally make the court record search process easy by providing a robust database containing different types of court records that people can conveniently access.
Although third-party companies licensed by the NCAOC have access to accurate court record data, companies that do not have real-time access to the records may not have up-to-date information. They also do not have access to confidential court records.
Court records obtained should not be considered an official substitute for the records issued by the Clerk of Court.
